How size tolerance works

Size tolerance sets the “give or take” range around your target slice volume. Think of it as how much an edge piece is allowed to differ from a perfect center slice and still count as one serving.

  • Lower tolerance keeps every serving closer to the same size, but more rim scraps will be left as gray trim, so your total yield may drop.
  • Higher tolerance lets more of the rim count as gold edge servings, raising your yield while still keeping each piece within an acceptable range.
  • The tolerance band shows the smallest and largest volumes we accept as a serving. Pink slices are full slices, gold slices are edge servings that pass the test, and gray areas are trim that is too small to count.

Does size tolerance affect Advanced scoring? Yes — but only one way. Advanced scoring’s Minimum merge size only decides how rim cells are grouped into candidate pieces. Size tolerance is the final judge that decides whether a candidate piece actually counts as a serving. A higher merge size can suggest bigger pieces, but a piece only turns gold and adds to your total if its real volume falls inside the tolerance band. Little scraps never count, no matter how the pieces are grouped.
